What lights us up about the stages of grief is knowing that we’re helping people emotionally and spiritually heal after a loss. There are different types of loss, such as the death of a relative, spouse or close friend. Or even the death of a relationship, pet, miscarriage, job loss or personal injury. We all have our own way of grieving.
Here’s my story …
When I was fifteen years old my mom committed suicide, then my grandma had an asthma attack and died two years later, my grandpa soon followed her, my uncle died in a car accident, and my father died of AIDS and my cousin hung herself. It felt as though everyone around me was dropping like flies. I wanted to understand why I was experiencing so many deaths, so I sought counselling and read books about death, dying and life after death because I wanted to understand the whole process. Since then I’ve helped many people look at death and loss in a new light. My path to become a grief counselor became clear sometime after I wrote the book Having fun with God.
