What lights me up about the stages of grief is knowing that I’m helping people emotionally and spiritually heal after a loss. There are different types of loss, such as the death of a relative, spouse or close friend. Or even the death of a relationship, pet, miscarriage, job loss or personal injury. We all have our own way of grieving. I can relate because, I’ve experienced many losses.

Here’s my story …

When I was fifteen years old my mom committed suicide, then my grandma had an asthma attack and died two years later, my grandpa soon followed her, my uncle died in a car accident, and my father died of AIDS and my cousin hung herself. It felt as though everyone around me was dropping like flies. I wanted to understand why I was experiencing so many deaths, so I sought counselling and read books about death, dying and life after death because I wanted to understand the whole process. Since then I’ve helped many people look at death and loss in a new light. My path to become a grief counselor became clear sometime after I wrote the book Having fun with God and even more clear after my cat Tasha died. 

Three things about me and my experience that may surprise and delight you – while serving our work together are:

  1. Compassionate – being conscious of your distress with a desire to alleviate it
  2. Devotion – being dedicated to your well being
  3. Empathetic – being sensitive towards the thoughts, feelings and experiences of others.

What sets me apart from other services is personal experience with dying, death and loss, plus an awe inspiring glimpse of the other side. Including celestial visits from loved ones, who have also played an important roll in my life and have graced me with their guidance and wisdom.
